Mauro Icardi, the Argentine striker currently with Turkish club Galatasaray, is at the center of new transfer speculation following reports he has received multiple high-salary offers from clubs abroad.
According to journalist Hernán Castillo, as cited in a social media post by Forza Cimbom on June 1, 2026, Icardi is interested in a move to Argentine giants River Plate but would need to accept a significant pay cut to make the transfer happen.
Icardi’s contract with Galatasaray runs until June 2026 and includes a €15 million release clause. Despite that commitment, reports from Spanish and Argentine media indicate River Plate has initiated contact with the 33-year-old forward.
Journalist Gustavo Yarroch stated that the connection between the club and player has not been broken, while club president Stefano Di Carlo has not denied the link.
The striker has not played professionally in his native Argentina, having begun his career in Italy. This season with Galatasaray, he has made 37 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing 2 assists.
River Plate reportedly views Icardi as a key reinforcement for its Copa Libertadores campaign and is preparing a two-year contract offer.
