Galatasaray Opens New Contract Talks With Mauro Icardi Worth Five Million Euros

Galatasaray has offered striker Mauro Icardi a new contract worth up to 5 million euros per season including bonuses, as the Turkish club moves to secure its captain beyond this summer.

President Dursun Özbek personally met with Icardi to convey the club’s wish that he remain in Istanbul, telling Turkish media the renewal is “a matter of loyalty and keeping one’s word.” The proposed deal would run for two years until 2028, with one season optional, according to reports citing Turkish daily Fanatik.

The financial terms represent a pay cut from Icardi’s current salary. The 33-year-old Argentine reportedly earns 10 million euros annually under his existing agreement, which expires on 30 June 2026. The new offer would have that figure at 5 million euros per year. Support from fans during a recent match against Kasımpaşa accelerated talks, though club officials stated negotiations will proceed only if the stipulated conditions are respected.

Icardi’s response will also shape Galatasaray’s transfer plans for a backup striker. Since joining permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2023, he has scored 65 goals in 95 Süper Lig appearances and helped the club win five trophies. This season he has recorded nine goals in 16 appearances despite recovering from a serious knee injury.

Turkish media report interest in Icardi from AS Roma, Real Oviedo, Elche CF, and River Plate, while the striker has already turned down offers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
