Samson Adamu Becomes First Nigerian CAF Acting Chief

Samson Adamu Speaking to African Football conference

Samson Adamu has taken over as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking the first time a Nigerian has occupied the position since the body was established in 1957.

According to reports, Adamu completed the FIFA Master course in 2009 and has held the position of Director of Competitions at CAF since at least 2020. In that role, he was responsible for coordinating flagship events like the Africa Cup of Nations and the African Nations Championship.

His appointment follows the departure of Veron Mosengo-Omba amid a period of institutional turbulence, including a recent dispute over the 2025 AFCON trophy.
