African football is facing a potential legal crisis, with a senior CAF executive committee member acknowledging that the organisation risks a humiliating defeat at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) unless a dispute involving Morocco and Senegal is resolved privately.

The admission came following a meeting in Cairo, raising serious questions about CAF’s internal handling of the matter.

According to Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, a CAF executive committee member conceded that the only way to avoid a damaging CAS ruling is for Morocco to withdraw its initial complaint, which would then allow Senegal to drop its own appeal.

The official suggested that CAF president Patrice Motsepe should apply pressure on Morocco to withdraw, adding that while Moroccan football chief Fouzi Lekjaa had spoken in favour of restoring peace within the African football family, it remains uncertain whether he would agree to such a step.
