CAF Secretary General Mosengo-Omba Resigns After 30 Years

Véron MOSENGO-OMBA Speaking to Africa football conference

CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba announced his resignation on 29 March 2026, ending a career of more than three decades in African football administration.

In an official press release from Cairo, he stated his decision to step down to focus on personal projects, adding that he can now “retire with peace of mind and without constraint” after dispelling unfounded suspicions raised against him.

Mosengo-Omba, who has served as CAF’s Secretary General since 2021, thanked CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and his teams for enabling “real and remarkable progress” during his tenure. He noted that he leaves the Confederation of African Football “more prosperous than ever” and expressed hope that the gains made will last and be sustained.

His departure follows a career dedicated to promoting football as a tool for unity, education, and hope across Africa. No interim successor has been named yet, but CAF is expected to address the leadership transition in the coming days.
