Mendy Criticizes CAF Following AFCON Controversy

Edouard Mendy Presents in Morocco vs Senegal match

Senegal's veteran goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, has spoken out against CAF following the controversial conclusion of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations.

The shot-stopper expressed deep frustration over the administrative ruling that drove Senegal out of their title after a protest walk-off, asserting that his team remains the true champions of the continent.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the Al-Ahli goalkeeper expressed his feelings, stating, “Why should I not feel as African Champion, I don't know. Yeah, but I ask you because maybe Morocco will, even though CAF has no right to make me feel like I'm not a champion. Everybody feels like Senegal is the champion. So there are no questions.”

Accentuating the impact on the reputation of African football, the Senegalese star spoke out regarding the governance of the sport. “It is a shame for Africa but this needs to change. We need to be at the same level with the Western football world,” he added, calling for higher standards to match the progress made on the pitch.
