Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has explained his decision to reject Galatasaray's iconic No. 9 jersey and continue wearing the No. 45 shirt. The Nigerian forward made the disclosure in an interview with Turkish outlet Sabah, which was shared widely on social media on Thursday.

Osimhen said he was offered the No. 9 shirt after it became vacant following Mauro Icardi's departure from the club, but chose to remain with his current number. He told Sabah that the No. 45 jersey has brought him good fortune since he arrived in Istanbul and he does not want to change it.

"I expect you'll sell more shirts, but I think you'll understand me. Number 45 has brought me good luck at Galatasaray, and I want to continue with the same number," he said.

Osimhen initially took the No. 45 shirt when he joined Galatasaray from Napoli in September 2024, because the No. 9 was occupied by Icardi. He has since established himself as a key figure for the Turkish champions, helping the club to the Super Lig title while wearing the number.
