Mohamed Salah has signed a two-year deal with Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor, the club announced on Thursday, August 6. The 34-year-old Egyptian forward joins on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.
The club said Salah will earn 17 million euros per season, plus a 20 percent share from products sold under his name and conditional bonuses.
Salah arrived in Turkey on Wednesday via Istanbul's Ataturk Airport before traveling to the Black Sea city of Trabzon. He was met by thousands of supporters at the stadium who waved flags and lit flares to welcome him.
During a signing ceremony, Salah addressed the crowd and said he had never experienced such a reception and wanted to win trophies with the club. Trabzonspor, considered Turkey's fourth-biggest club behind Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas, finished third last season to qualify for the Europa League playoff round.
During his visit to the city, Trabzon Mayor Ahmet Metin Genc met with Salah and made an informal offer to give him a piece of land in the region. In remarks captured in a video circulating online, the mayor suggested providing a beautiful spot for Salah, his children and grandchildren in the future that would not be affected by global warming.
Salah thanked him for the gesture. The exchange was widely shared on social media after the account Salah Updates posted the clip.
