Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazario has given a blunt assessment of Cristiano Ronaldo following Portugal's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Portugal were eliminated by Spain in the round of 16, ending what is expected to be Ronaldo's sixth and final World Cup appearance.

According to Ronaldo Nazario, who spoke to ESPN Brazil, the Portuguese forward's current level may no longer be suited to the highest stage of international football. "Maybe he still has the level to play in Saudi Arabia, but to compete in a World Cup, we realize that it is much more difficult, the level is much higher," he said.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan striker also reflected on the physical toll on veteran players. "Despite our passion, our love of football and our desire to play forever, I think it is finally the body that decides for us".

Cristiano Ronaldo, 40, has played for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia since 2023 after leaving European football. He had previously said the 2026 tournament would be his last, noting he will be 41 during the competition.
