German club Eintracht Frankfurt have submitted a formal proposal to Belgian side Club Brugge for Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika.
The development was reported by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on Friday, with talks now underway between the two clubs.
According to reports, the Bundesliga outfit is exploring a deal structured as a loan with an obligation to buy. Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger said a new round of negotiations is expected after Frankfurt's Bundesliga fixture against Hoffenheim.
He noted that while Onyedika is a top option on Frankfurt's list, the deal remains complicated and the club is also considering alternative midfield targets.
Onyedika, 24, joined Club Brugge from Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2022 and has become a central figure in their midfield. He is under contract with the Belgian champions until June 2027.
Last season he made 52 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists, and has helped the club win two Belgian league titles. The defensive midfielder is also a Nigeria international, featuring for the Super Eagles.
Frankfurt are looking to strengthen their midfield depth before the close of the summer transfer window. The German side is not the only club interested in the player.
Turkish champions Galatasaray are also monitoring his situation, along with several other European clubs. No agreement has been reached yet, but discussions are ongoing as Frankfurt push to secure the midfielder's signature.
