Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a move to Turkish club Bursaspor, the club announced on Thursday, July 17, 2026.
Bursaspor confirmed the signing on its official X account at 4:00 p.m. with a welcome message that read, "Ailemize Hoş Geldin, Kelechi Iheanacho / Welcome to our family, Kelechi Iheanacho." The video announcement marks Iheanacho's switch to the TFF 1. Lig, the second tier of Turkish football. The transfer was concluded as a free move, effectively ending his time with Scottish champions Celtic.
Iheanacho, 29, became a free agent last month after Celtic declined to activate the 12-month extension in his contract. He had joined the Glasgow club in the summer of 2025 on a one-year deal.
Despite an injury-affected season, he made a significant impact, scoring seven goals in 13 appearances in all competitions. Five of those came in the Scottish Premiership, with additional goals in the Europa League and Scottish Cup.
His late winners against Hibernian and Motherwell were crucial to Celtic's title run, and he scored after coming off the bench in the Scottish Cup final.
Bursaspor, based in the city of Bursa, secured promotion to the second division last season and have now signed Iheanacho on a three-year deal.
The club is targeting promotion to the Super Lig and identified the former Manchester City and Leicester City forward as a key addition. Reports in Turkey and Scotland indicate that Celtic had held talks to re-sign Iheanacho but could not match the length and financial terms offered by Bursaspor.
