Aston Villa advanced to the UEFA Europa League final with a commanding 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the second leg of their semi-final at Villa Park in Birmingham on Thursday, May 7, 2026. 

The English Premier League side overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit to win 4-1 on aggregate, securing progression thanks to a dominant home performance in front of their passionate supporters.


Ollie Watkins, the English striker, scored the opener in the 36th minute, assisted by Argentine playmaker Emi Buendia. Emi Buendia, the Argentine midfielder, added the second from the penalty spot in the 58th minute. Scottish captain John McGinn netted twice, in the 77th and 80th minutes. Villa controlled proceedings with sustained attacking pressure and clinical finishing, overwhelming Forest after a competitive opening period.


Aston Villa demonstrated strong European form throughout the campaign, positioning themselves as contenders for silverware while maintaining a competitive Premier League standing near the top half with a positive goal difference. Nottingham Forest sat 16th in the Premier League table with 42 points from 35 matches and a goal difference of -2, fighting to secure survival.
