PSG Honors Hillsborough Victims and Jota Brothers Before Anfield Clash

Paris Saint-Germain Team on the squad Anfield

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and the club’s first-team squad visited Anfield on Monday to pay their respects to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster and to the late Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva.

The tribute included a stop at the memorial dedicated to the Portuguese forward and his sibling, who died in a car crash in Spain on July 3, 2025. Jota and Silva were driving a Lamborghini Huracán on the A-52 motorway near Cernadilla when a tyre blowout caused the vehicle to veer off the road, flip, and catch fire. Both died at the scene.

Before Tuesday’s Champions League match against Liverpool, PSG confirmed a minute’s silence will be observed for the 97 victims of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, with players wearing black armbands during the game.

The tribute comes ahead of a high-stakes European tie, but PSG’s solemn visit shifted focus to remembrance.
