Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has warned his side against complacency ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool at Anfield, describing the fixture as a “trap match.”
Speaking after PSG’s narrow first-leg victory, the 55-year-old Spanish manager reported that public perception of his team’s superiority counts for nothing once the second leg begins.
Enrique insisted that football moves quickly and that his players must prepare for the return leg with the same intensity and focus as if no advantage existed. He acknowledged that playing at home is more enjoyable due to the strong connection between his team and the Parisian supporters, but said avoiding that same dynamic at Anfield is both a challenge and a motivation.
Enrique, a former Barcelona and Spain midfielder who took charge of PSG in 2023, has extensive experience in high-pressure knockout ties. He commented that Liverpool will inevitably draw energy from their home crowd, “What I want my team to know is that there will be difficulties,” Enrique said. “It’s a motivation for us to overcome the pressure and play our game. You’ll see tomorrow that it will be a very tight match.”
The match kicks off on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, with Liverpool needing to overturn a first-leg deficit to reach the semi-finals. For PSG, who have yet to win Europe’s top club competition, progressing past a revitalised Liverpool side on their own ground.
