Turkish-German footballer Ilkay Gündoğan has announced the birth of his son, Kian Leone Gündoğan. The 35-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for Galatasaray, shared the news on social media with a hospital photo showing him in scrubs standing beside his wife, Sara Arfaoui, as she holds the newborn.
In his post, Gündoğan wrote: "Our love is here ... Kian Leone Gündoğan". The couple, who already have a daughter, expressed their joy at the new addition to their family.
The middle name "Leone" holds special meaning for Galatasaray fans, as it is the Italian word for "lion," matching the club's famous lion mascot and symbol of strength. Gündoğan joined Galatasaray in the summer of 2025 after a successful career at clubs including Manchester City and Barcelona, where he won numerous major trophies. The family is now based in Istanbul while he continues his career in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Galatasaray supporters and fans from across the football world filled the comments with congratulations. Many referred to the baby as a "little lion" and wished the family health and happiness, tying the name to club pride.
