Sporting CP defeated Celtic 4-1 in a pre-season friendly match on Tuesday at Estádio do Algarve in Almancil, Portugal.
The Portuguese side used the encounter to build fitness and sharpness ahead of their domestic campaign, while Celtic continued their preparations under manager Martin O’Neill. Sporting capitalized on second-half dominance after an even opening period.
Geny Catamo scored for Sporting CP in the 24th minute. Camilo Andrés Durán Márquez equalized for Celtic in the 69th minute. Daniel Santos Bragança restored the lead for Sporting in the 72nd minute and added another in the 79th minute, with Ricardo Mangas netting in the 75th minute.
Sporting controlled the second half with quick transitions and clinical finishing after a competitive first half.
Sporting CP, preparing for the Primeira Liga season, showcased depth with multiple goalscorers. Celtic, in pre-season mode with several key players rested, showed resilience but conceded three late goals. The result leaves both teams assessing squad fitness from the friendly.
