Wrexham AFC goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has officially switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria, FIFA has confirmed.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper, born to Nigerian parents, is now eligible to represent the Super Eagles. His decision adds further depth to an already competitive goalkeeping department that includes Maduka Okoye and Stanley Nwabali.
Okonkwo has also firmly established himself as Wrexham’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 2025/26 Championship season. Initially signed on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2024, he began the campaign as the second choice behind summer arrival Danny Ward, after Ward suffered an elbow injury, Okonkwo stepped in and has since started over 30 consecutive league matches, keeping his place even after Ward’s full recovery.
Currently valued between €2.5M and €3M, Okonkwo has recorded 46 Championship goals conceded, 9–10 clean sheets, and a save percentage of approximately 69% from 145–153 shots on target.
His goals-conceded-per-90 average stands at roughly 1.28, emphasizing a reliable and consistent campaign for the Welsh club in the second tier of English football.
