Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented cheques totaling ₦2.43 billion to the families and next of kin of deceased police officers. The ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters, benefited 1,075 families of personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty across the country.

The disbursement is part of the Group Life Assurance and the IGP Family Welfare Schemes, designed to provide financial relief to the dependents of "fallen heroes" who made the ultimate sacrifice for national security.

Speaking at the event, IGP Disu emphasized that while no amount of money can replace a human life, the initiative reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s (NPF) unwavering commitment to ensuring that the families of deceased officers are not abandoned.

"These cheques are symbols of our collective gratitude and a firm promise that the sacrifices of our gallant officers will never be forgotten," Disu stated.

The IGP also highlighted ongoing efforts to digitize the Force’s insurance processes. This modernization aims to reduce delays in claim processing, ensuring that entitlements reach bereaved families more efficiently. He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously, particularly in securing the education and future of the children left behind.

This presentation follows IGP Disu’s recent confirmation by the Nigeria Police Council, signaling a leadership focus on intelligence-led policing and robust officer welfare.
