Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi won his first Man of the Match award at the Africa Cup of Nations following an outstanding performance in Nigeria’s clash against Tanzania. The Super Eagles delivered a confident display in the Group-stage encounter, with Ajayi playing a key role at the back and contributing decisively to the team’s success.


Ajayi, who has made a total of 48 appearances for the Super Eagles, scored a crucial goal in the opening minutes of the match in Morocco. The goal was set up by midfielder Alex Iwobi, whose precise assist allowed the defender to finish calmly. His impressive all-round performance earned him a silver cup, presented to him as the Man of the Match, making him the first player to receive the award for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.


The 31-year-old defender was solid in defense, making important interceptions and clearances that kept Tanzania at bay.
