Nigeria's current Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has commented on teammate Victor Osimhen’s multiple attempts to score during Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations clash against Tanzania. The highly anticipated match saw the Super Eagles dominate large spells of play, creating several chances, but the Eagles striker was unable to find the back of the net despite his relentless effort and movement throughout the game.
Speaking after the match, the Super Eagles captain revealed that the striker was very desperate to secure a goal. Ndidi explained that Osimhen’s hunger to score sometimes comes with added pressure, especially in crucial international fixtures. “So, I think Osimhen is kind of putting too much pressure on himself. I’m going to speak to him, he wants to win,” Ndidi stated after the final whistle ended without a goal from Osimhen. He added that the team remains united and confident in the striker’s abilities despite the outcome.
Ndidi also paid tribute to Osimhen’s impressive overall performance, insisting that the forward’s contribution went beyond goals. “I didn’t see that but it is what it is. Osimhen is a big player, he wants to do the best for the team, maybe a bit frustrated,” Ndidi said.
The Super Eagles captain further stressed that goals will come with patience and collective support. According to Ndidi, the coaching staff and players understand the demands placed on a striker of Osimhen’s caliber and are focused on maintaining confidence within the squad.
