Deeney: Osimhen's Absence Cost Galatasaray Against Union Saint-Gilloise

Deeney commented on Osimhen performance

Troy Deeney, the outspoken former Premier League striker from Birmingham, who previously starred for Watford, offered an intense critique of Galatasaray's performance following their loss to Brussels club Union Saint-Gilloise. Speaking on CBS Sports Authority, Deeney pinned the Turkish club's struggle directly on the absence of their star forward.

Deeney made his feelings clear, stating that the Nigerian striker's absence was a “major victory” for Saint-Gilloise in their match against Galatasaray. Despite having players like Lemina and captain Mauro Icardi in the lineup to cover for the forward, Galatasaray lacked the necessary cutting edge to secure even a draw. The former striker emphasized the unique quality of the missing player, remarking: “Yes, they've got Lemina and other players, but Osimhen is one of the top five strikers in world football.” Deeney believes the player's world-class status makes him virtually irreplaceable, emphasizing that the bench cannot simply supply a comparable talent.

The importance of the Nigerian international to the team's success was spotlighted as Deeney offered substantial advice to the Turkish side. He asserted that the team suffered a profound loss without the forward's presence and must prioritize his return for crucial fixtures. Deeney accentuated, “They've lost a big part; they need to get him back as soon as possible.” Troy's urgency stresses the belief that, for substantial games, Galatasaray's victory hopes are directly tied to the presence of their star striker.
