Italian manager Enzo Maresca’s first match in charge of Manchester City ended in a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on 1 August 2026 at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, decided by a 3-1 penalty shootout defeat in a pre-season friendly.
English forward Divin Mubama scored City’s goal in the 14th minute after an assist from Antoine Semenyo, while French defender Benjamin Pavard equalised for Inter in the 20th minute. The match featured an open first half before becoming more fragmented with numerous substitutions in a largely even contest that required penalties to produce a winner.
As this was a pre-season friendly, neither side held competitive standings, points totals or goal differences entering the fixture. The result marked the opening game of Manchester City’s Asia Tour under their new manager.
Manchester City’s next match is scheduled for Wednesday 5 August against a K League All-Stars side in Seoul as part of the ongoing pre-season programme.
