Lamine Yamal Visits Medellín After World Cup Triumph

Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez poses with Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal, who is wearing a yellow Colombia national team jersey number 19, during Yamal’s visit to the city in August 2026

Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal, a 19-year-old forward for FC Barcelona and the Spain national team, arrived in Medellín, Colombia, in early August 2026 as part of his post-tournament vacation.

Just two weeks after Spain claimed the 2026 FIFA World Cup title, Yamal had already spent time in Cartagena before traveling to the Antioquia capital during its annual Feria de las Flores.

On or around August 6, he met with Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez, known as Fico Gutiérrez. The mayor shared a photograph of the two on social media and issued a public welcome, noting Yamal’s positive comments about Colombia, Medellín, and its people while highlighting the recent world championship victory and the ongoing flower festival.

Yamal’s visit extended beyond the official greeting. He later appeared in Comuna 13, one of the city’s well-known neighborhoods, where he joined Colombian singer Ryan Castro and content creator Westcol during a public event that included a DJ set and concert.

Videos circulating on social platforms showed the Barcelona player wearing a Colombia national team jersey, singing along to Castro’s track “El ritmo que nos une,” and interacting with attendees. The gathering drew local crowds and generated widespread online attention.
