Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche has successfully undergone surgery in Lyon, France, after sustaining a severe right knee injury during pre-season. DailyHighlight9 reports.
The Nigerian international was operated on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following multiple ligament and meniscus tears confirmed by scans. The club confirmed the procedure was completed under the supervision of its medical team.
The injury occurred on August 6, 2026, during Getafe's pre-season friendly against AS Monaco. Uche was stretchered off after a heavy challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa. Initial examinations had suggested a bruise to the knee, but further MRI tests revealed extensive damage including several tears to the ligaments and meniscus in his right knee. Getafe stated that the severity of the trauma will require an extensive rehabilitation program.
Uche, 23, had returned to Getafe this summer after a loan spell with Premier League club Crystal Palace and was expected to play a key role in the 2026/27 La Liga campaign. The surgery was overseen by Getafe's medical chief Dr. Christofer Oyola and head of physiotherapy Alvaro Garcia Zudaire. As a result of the injury, the midfielder is ruled out for the entire 2026/27 season, a major setback for both the player and the club ahead of the new season.
