Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has revealed plans to include Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen among the club's new captains ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The decision comes following the departure of long-serving captain Fernando Muslera, who left the club after more than a decade as its first-choice goalkeeper and leader in the dressing room.
Buruk said the club is restructuring its leadership group and wants Osimhen to take on greater responsibility. The announcement was made in Istanbul as Galatasaray prepares for the new campaign after retaining the Turkish üper Lig title.
Osimhen played a central role in Galatasaray's success last season. The 27-year-old Super Eagles striker scored 22 goals and provided 8 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions as the club defended its league championship and completed a domestic double.
Buruk said Muslera's exit created a vacuum in leadership and described it as a difficult period for the squad. He explained that Muslera had a strong hold over the locker room and that the club now needs new personalities to guide the team.
According to the manager, Osimhen has demonstrated leadership qualities both on the pitch and in training, elevating teammates with his work ethic and character.
Buruk stated that giving responsibility to Osimhen would be important for the team's balance and noted that the striker is already regarded internally as one of the unsung captains within the squad.
