Barcelona Decline €30M Purchase Option for Marcus Rashford

FC Barcelona will not activate the €30 million purchase clause in Marcus Rashford’s loan agreement, according to multiple reports.

The clause, which allows the Catalan club to sign the Manchester United forward permanently, expires on June 15.

Rashford, 28, joined Barcelona on a season-long loan last summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. He has made 49 appearances for the LaLiga side this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions.

The club’s decision follows its recent acquisition of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon for €70 million, adding depth to the left side of the attack.

Despite not triggering the buy option, Barcelona remain interested in keeping Rashford beyond this season. Club officials have told the player’s representatives they are pleased with his professionalism, versatility, and output.

Sporting director Deco has sought to restructure the deal, favoring either a reduced transfer fee or a second season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy. Sources indicate Barcelona can pay the €30 million clause in three €10 million installments through 2028, but prefer to renegotiate.

Manchester United, however, maintain that the clause represents fair value and have informed Barcelona to pay the full amount if they want the player.

If Barcelona do not meet United’s terms by the June 15 deadline, Rashford will return to Manchester United, where he remains under contract until 2028. United have no plans to reintegrate the England international and would consider offers from other clubs, with Bayern Munich reportedly willing to match the valuation.
