Former Super Eagles captain Segun Odegbami is contemplating legal action to challenge the electoral framework for the 2026 Nigeria Football Federation elections.

The 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner said the current system prevents qualified individuals from assuming leadership positions in Nigerian football. Odegbami disclosed his position on Saturday, stating that he is consulting lawyers and stakeholders ahead of a possible court challenge.

According to the Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Odegbami believes the NFF constitution that produces the board must be reviewed to allow credible governance. He argued that the existing electoral structure makes it impossible for the right calibre of people to lead the federation.

Odegbami said he has consistently advocated for reform and now intends to pursue disruption through legal means. “I have been beating my own drum, that I am going to challenge the NFF constitution that brings in the board. I am looking at it seriously. I am consulting and I hope this will be part of the disruption to bring about the needed change that we are talking about. We cannot continue like this,” he stated.

The 2026 NFF elections are expected to be contentious as stakeholders demand transparency and reforms. Odegbami, popularly known as 'Mathematical,' has previously contested for the federation's presidency and remains a vocal advocate for structural change.
