Liverpool and Chelsea drew 1-1 on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Anfield in Liverpool during Premier League Matchday 36.

The result ended Chelsea's six-game losing streak while keeping Liverpool fourth in the table as both clubs pursued European qualification objectives for next season in England.

Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 6th minute with a curling strike from the edge of the box after receiving the ball from English winger Rio Ngumoha. Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez equalized for Chelsea in the 35th minute. Liverpool struck early, Chelsea leveled before halftime, and the second half featured two correctly disallowed offside goals and two Liverpool efforts that hit the woodwork.

The draw left Liverpool fourth in the Premier League after 36 matches with 59 points and a goal difference of plus 12, keeping the club within reach of Champions League qualification. Arne Slot's side has dropped points at Anfield eight times this season and now requires three points from its final games to secure a top-four finish.

Chelsea stayed ninth after 36 matches with 49 points and a goal difference of plus six, ending a six-match losing sequence under manager Calum MacFarlane. The point moved Chelsea three points behind seventh-placed Brentford in the race for European places. Both clubs entered with lengthy injury lists, Liverpool missing goalkeeper Alisson and forward Mohamed Salah, while Chelsea were without attackers Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto.

Liverpool would visit Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday, May 15, 2026. Chelsea face Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
