Iran defeated Gambia 3-1 in an international friendly match on Friday at Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey.

The victory provided valuable preparation for the Iranian national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Gambia took an early lead, but Iran mounted a strong second-half response to secure the win.

Gambia defender Omar Colley (Gambian) scored in the 42nd minute, assisted by Ebrima Colley, giving the visitors a 1-0 halftime lead. Iran responded after the break with Aria Yousefi (Iranian) equalizing in the 47th minute, assisted by Mohammad Mohebi. Ramin Rezaeian (Iranian) added the second goal in the 59th minute, assisted by Ali Alipour. Mehdi Taremi (Iranian) sealed the 3-1 victory in the 68th minute, assisted by Ali Alipour.

Ranked 21st in the FIFA world rankings, Iran improved their pre-tournament form with this result. Gambia, ranked 116th, showed early competitiveness but struggled to contain Iran’s attacking pressure. The match highlighted Iran’s depth in attack through experienced players like Taremi.
