Galatasaray have invited Mauro Icardi's agent to Istanbul to begin formal talks over a contract extension, according to Turkish journalist Haluk Yürekli.
The update, shared by Le Marca Sports, is the club's first concrete move to secure its captain beyond this summer. Icardi, the 33-year-old Argentine striker born on 19 February 1993, has been the focus of speculation as his deal approaches its final weeks.
Icardi first arrived in Istanbul on loan for the 2022-23 season, scoring 22 goals in 24 league games, before joining permanently on 26 July 2023. Since the permanent move he has added 43 goals in 71 Süper Lig appearances, giving him a combined Galatasaray league record of 65 goals in 95 matches as of 9 May 2026.
This season he has 13 league goals, remaining the side's primary finisher. His current contract runs until 30 June 2026, which would allow foreign clubs to approach him from January. Previous negotiations stalled over his reported €6 million annual salary, with his camp earlier asking the board to wait until December before deciding.
