A senior official of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission has strongly criticised the decision to appoint DR Congo referee Jean-Jacques Ngambo Ndala to handle the first leg of the CAF Champions League final between Sundowns and FAR Rabat on 17 May. Daily Highlight9 reports.
The official noted that FIFA dropped Ndala from its World Cup referee list due to his handling of the recent Africa Cup of Nations final.
“They were not ready to have any decision of his tainted by the AFCON scandal,” reporter Osasu Obayiuwana said. He argued that Ndala should be stood down from all CAF matches until the Court of Arbitration for Sport rules on the AFCON final, warning the move brings CAF into further disrepute.
According to the reporter, at least five members of CAF’s Executive Committee are demanding that Ndala be replaced for the final.
