Alexandre Siewe Leupi, the former director of communications at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has been appointed Senior Adviser in Charge of Communications at the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat.

The appointment is contained in a letter dated March 13, 2026, signed by AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene. The role is based at the Secretariat's headquarters in Accra, Ghana. The letter, which outlines a P5-level position, was made public after Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana shared images of it on X.

Under the appointment, Siewe will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Secretariat's communication and public information functions, with his term aligned to that of the Secretary-General.

Siewe is a Cameroonian journalist who took over CAF's communications department in late 2020, succeeding Nathalie Rabe. On December 16, 2020, he led a familiarisation meeting for communications directors of CAF's 56 member associations to discuss a unified communications manual and media strategy. Prior to CAF, he worked with Radio France Internationale, Jeune Afrique and ABK Radio.

The AfCFTA Secretariat was commissioned in Accra on August 17, 2020, to drive implementation of the trade agreement intended to create a single African market. Siewe's move to the trade body follows a period of turnover in African sports administration.

CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba, who oversaw the confederation during Siewe's tenure, resigned on March 29, 2026, after serving since 2021. The AfCFTA has not publicly commented on the appointment beyond the letter.
