Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has firmly rejected the Premier League’s growing emphasis on physicality and set-pieces, doubling down on his commitment to technical, creative football.
Speaking after PSG’s 2-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg victory over Liverpool on April 8, 2026, the Spanish manager made his philosophy apparent: his team will prioritize domination, enjoyment, and attacking play over pragmatic, physical approaches.
When asked why he sticks to such a technical approach while the Premier League increasingly favors set-pieces and physical strength, Enrique declined to criticize other teams. “Every manager chooses their own style of play,” he said.
He acknowledged that Liverpool uses set-pieces effectively, but insisted that it is not PSG’s way. “We want to enjoy the game together with our fans. We aim to dominate in every area of the pitch. We select players based on our philosophy of play, not their height.”
