Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır delivered a frank assessment after his team’s disappointing 1-1 home draw against Kocaelispor on April 12 in the Süper Lig, admitting that lapses in concentration cost them victory.
“We lost an advantage today, but we need to lift our heads and keep going. Football is a serious game. If you’re not serious, if you don’t play the moments well, you get punished,” Çakır told beIN Sports following the final whistle.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper, renowned for his reflexes and penalty-saving ability, joined Galatasaray from Trabzonspor in September 2025 in a high-profile €27.5 million net transfer (approximately €33 million with VAT). He signed a five-year contract through 2030 and has quickly cemented himself as the club’s undisputed No. 1 goalkeeper.
Despite dropping two points at home, Çakır refused to dwell on the setback. “We didn’t play the moments well today. But everything is still in our hands. We want to lift our heads and become champions,” he added.
