Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed.
Speaking after City’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Liverpool on Saturday, Lijnders standing in for the suspended Pep Guardiola told reporters: “Every good story comes to an end. I hope he enjoys the last months because there are only six weeks and he has a good farewell.”
Silva, 31, has spent nine seasons at City since joining in July 2017. The Portuguese attacking midfielder has won six Premier League titles and one Champions League with the club. He currently serves as team captain.
Lijnders praised Silva’s unique qualities, saying: “You never replace a player like him with the same kind of player because they don’t exist. He is unique in his game control and decision-making. He always makes the right decisions.”
