KRC Genk winger Yira Sor has received his maiden call-up to the Nigerian national team under new head coach Eric Chelle for upcoming international friendlies against Jordan and Iran.

The 21-year-old’s inclusion follows a standout 2025-26 campaign in the Belgian Pro League, where he tallied five goals and seven assists in 25 appearances.

Speaking to the Super Eagles podcast, the Genk winger expresses the Super Eagles players as a proper link for him, “player with a lot of pace and my player that loves the link up play, so I hope I can give this to the team and together we can achieve more.” he stated.

Reflecting on his rapid rise, Sor shared his emotional journey from fan to team member: “just two months ago in the AFCON, I was watching the team on the television and I was nervous, I was supporting the team and 2, 3 months later I got caught up to join this squad, it was really a shock for me to be very honest. To represent Nigeria over more than 200 million people it's something I really see to be an honor that I must not take for granted and I have to push to the maximum.”
