England manager Thomas Tuchel has handed call-ups to Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United for the upcoming international fixtures, explaining that the pair’s form under Michael Carrick at the club warranted their inclusion.
Speaking to the media, Tuchel noted that United are currently performing well, with both players playing significant roles in that positive run.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tuchel said of the duo: "Man United are doing great under Carrick, Maguire and Kobbie have been a big part of that run." The Germany manager described the Manchester United pair as “new players” to him in the international setup, emphasizing that he wants to assess them directly.
Tuchel also stated, according to Romano: "They are ‘new players’ to me, I wanna see them on the pitch and see them around other players before World Cup decisions." The call-ups are part of the coach’s preparations ahead of the World Cup, with both Manchester United players now having the opportunity to stake their claim for a more permanent place in his plans.
