Nigerian Striker Victor Osimhen Announces Plan to Buy Istanbulspor

Turkish football is facing a potential landmark moment after Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen declared his intention to purchase second-tier club Istanbulspor. The historic club, currently competing in the TFF First League, finds itself in a precarious position, sitting 16th in the standings as of late March 2026. 



With a squad valued at approximately €8.63 million according to Transfermarkt, Istanbulspor has a storied past that includes a government-led sale for $3.25 million in 2006 before being acquired by the SarıalıoÄŸlu family. 


Speaking during an interview with Twitch streamer Catarefe, the Galatasaray forward announced his intention to take over the club, sending shockwaves through Turkish football. The 27-year-old Nigerian international, who currently plays for Galatasaray, made the revelation on the live broadcast.


Istanbulspor was founded in 1926 by students and alumni of Istanbul High School (İstanbul Erkek Lisesi), Istanbulspor carries a deep historical legacy reflected in its yellow and black colors, which honor students who served as medical orderlies and those who were martyred.
