Federico Chiesa Withdraws from Italy Squad Due to Fitness Concerns

Federico Chiesa smile in a crucial goal in Italy

Federico Chiesa has officially withdrawn from the Italy national team ahead of their crucial World Cup play-off semi-final against Northern Ireland.

Following medical assessments at the Federal Technical Centre in Coverciano, the Liverpool forward was deemed unfit to participate in the upcoming international fixtures. In a coordinated decision with his club, Chiesa has left the training camp to return to Merseyside for further treatment and recovery.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed the news on Monday, noting that the 28-year-old would be unavailable for both the semi-final and a potential final against either Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Gattuso has called up Bologna winger Nicolò Cambiaghi as a replacement. Cambiaghi, who has enjoyed a productive season in Serie A, joins the squad as Italy looks to secure its first World Cup appearance since 2014.
