Nigerian and Ugandan half-cast forward Uche Ikpeazu has made a bold statement ahead of the clash between Nigeria and Uganda in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. The match is expected to play a crucial role in determining qualification for the 2025 AFCON, adding extra tension and emotion to the contest.
Uche Ikpeazu, who was born to a Nigerian father from Delta State and a Ugandan mother, promised to defeat Nigeria while offering an emotional apology in advance. Speaking candidly ahead of the Super Eagles showdown, Ikpeazu said, “I am Ugandan as well, and I play for Uganda. I will be hoping to beat Nigeria. So, Dad, I am sorry,” he stated while awaiting the clash with the Super Eagles.
The Uganda forward further vowed to support the Uganda national team by all means as they push for qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations. Emphasizing his loyalty to the Cranes, Ikpeazu added, “I hope to help the Cranes defeat the Super Eagles in their final match of Group C of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.” The 30-year-old striker, who made his full international debut for Uganda in September 2025, is expected to play a key role as the Super Eagles prepare to face the Cranes in their final AFCON qualification match.
