Getafe CF forward Christantus Uche has confirmed he has suffered a serious knee injury that will require a lengthy recovery period, ruling him out of action for the long term.
The 23-year-old Nigerian, born in Owerri, sustained the injury on August 6, 2026, during Getafe's pre-season friendly against AS Monaco following a heavy tackle from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa.
Getafe initially reported a right knee contusion, but subsequent medical examinations revealed tears to both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral collateral ligament (LCL), along with significant meniscus damage and fractures around the knee. Medical staff estimate he will be sidelined for approximately 12 months, which is expected to rule him out for the entire 2026/27 season.
Announcing the news on his official Instagram account, on August 6, Uche addressed supporters directly. He stated: "Today is one of the most difficult days of my career. After the latest medical tests, it has been confirmed that my knee injury is serious and that I will have to go through a long recovery process. I'm not going to lie: accepting that I'll be away from the pitch for some time is tough. Football is my passion, my job and what makes me happiest... But difficulties are also part of the journey. I'm going to face this stage with strength, patience and determination... I want to sincerely thank my family, my teammates, the coaching staff, the medical team and the entire Getafe CF family for being by my side... This is just one chapter, not the end of the story. I'll be back."
