Championship winners Coventry City have reached an agreement to sign Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest on a permanent deal.

Reports indicate the 29-year-old Nigerian forward has been cleared to complete a medical, with the fee understood to be in the region of £17 million. If finalised, the transfer would end Awoniyi's four-year spell at the City Ground.

Awoniyi moved to Forest from German side Union Berlin in June 2022 and went on to make more than 100 appearances for the club. During that time he scored 23 goals and registered six assists in all competitions. His game time was limited last season, with only three league starts from 17 appearances, and he was not included in the club's Europa League squad.

He has featured in pre-season under Forest's new head coach Oliver Glasner, including a final warm-up match against Bayer Leverkusen. At Forest, competition for the central striker role has increased with the presence of Chris Wood, Igor Jesus, Dan Ndoye and Arnaud Kalimuendo.
