The Paris Saint-Germain defender addressed the issue during an interview on ABTalks, the YouTube talk show hosted by Anas Bukhash.
The episode was released in January 2025 and has since circulated widely on social media. Hakimi, 26, said the arrangement has been in place since he was a teenager. He identified his mother as Saida Mouh.
Hakimi said he began earning significant income from football at a young age and did not have the experience to manage it. At 18, he could not open a bank account independently, so his mother took charge of collecting and managing his earnings.
As his career progressed at Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and later PSG, the system remained unchanged because it was working. He said he learned financial management from her and continues to seek her advice on money matters. He described his mother as the person he trusts most to protect his family’s interests.
The arrangement first drew global attention in 2023 during Hakimi’s divorce from Spanish-Tunisian actress Hiba Abouk. Reports at the time claimed he had transferred his fortune to his mother to avoid a financial settlement.
Hakimi said in the interview that the decision had no connection to his marriage or divorce. He said it was a long-standing family practice based on trust and stability, not an attempt to shield wealth.
