Portuguese forwards Gonçalo Guedes and Bruno Fernandes scored in the second half to secure the victory in a World Cup warm-up match. Chile pulled one back late through Lucas Cepeda, but the hosts held on despite both teams receiving red cards just before halftime.
Guedes (Portugal) opened the scoring in the 58th minute, assisted by Rúben Neves (Portugal). Bruno Fernandes (Portugal) added the second goal in the 75th minute, assisted by Francisco Conceição (Portugal). Lucas Cepeda (Chile) scored in the 90+2nd minute. The match flow featured a goalless, physical first half marred by red cards to Rafael Leão (Portugal) and Iván Román (Chile) in the 45+2nd minute, followed by Portugal dominating possession and creating chances after the break while Chile mounted a late push.
Portugal, ranked fifth in the FIFA world rankings, used the fixture as preparation ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Chile ranks around 54th. The result improves Portugal’s recent friendly form as they tune up ahead of key fixtures.
Portugal faces Nigeria on June 10 in another international friendly.
