Galatasaray plan to hand Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen the club's No. 9 shirt and the captain's armband as part of a push to keep him in Istanbul ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Osimhen, 27, has worn the No. 45 shirt since joining Galatasaray from Napoli, because Argentine forward Mauro Icardi has occupied the No. 9 jersey. With Icardi's contract set to expire at the end of June, the shirt is expected to become available, and club officials intend to offer it to Osimhen as a mark of his status in the squad.
Head coach Okan Buruk is reported to back the move, with Osimhen viewed as an influential figure in the dressing room.
The captaincy offer forms part of a retention strategy aimed at fending off interest from several top European clubs. Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have all been credited with interest in recent windows.
Galatasaray signed Osimhen permanently from Napoli in a Turkish record deal worth around 75 million euros, and have placed a valuation of between 130 million and 150 million euros on the striker.
