Atletico Madrid's forward Julián Álvarez has agreed personal terms with FC Barcelona on a five-year contract, according to reports from Argentina cited by Mundo Deportivo.
The 26-year-old Argentina international, currently at Atlético Madrid, is said to have accepted a deal that would run until 2031. The information was first carried by Buenos Aires-based DSports Radio in late May and has since been repeated across Spanish media as Álvarez prepares with Argentina for the 2026 World Cup.
Barcelona has laid the groundwork for a transfer but has not yet secured Atlético's approval. Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco met last week in Barcelona with Álvarez's representative Fernando Hidalgo and intermediary Juanma López to outline the move, and the player has given his approval to the proposed conditions.
The Catalan side is preparing a first formal offer in the region of €100 million, while Argentine outlets estimate the total fee could reach €120 million to €125 million. To reduce the cost, Barcelona explored including players in the deal, with an initial attempt involving Ferran Torres.
Atlético Madrid has pushed back publicly. President Enrique Cerezo said this week that Álvarez remains an Atlético player "not only for this season, but for many others," noting his contract runs to 2030 with a release clause near €500 million.
