Victor Boniface to Leave Bremen, Rejoin Leverkusen After Loan

Victor Boniface will leave Werder Bremen at the end of the season and return to Bayer Leverkusen. The Nigerian striker's departure was confirmed on Friday ahead of Bremen's final Bundesliga fixture against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday at the Weserstadion.

Boniface joined Bremen on a season-long loan on 2 September 2025. The deal did not include an option to buy, so he will rejoin his parent club when the loan expires in June.

He made 11 league appearances for Bremen without scoring. His campaign was cut short by a knee injury sustained in December. After visiting a specialist in Austria, he underwent surgery on 10 January and missed the rest of the season.

He resumed individual training in April but did not play again. The move to Bremen followed a collapsed transfer to AC Milan in August 2025, when the Italian club withdrew after medical tests raised concerns about his right knee. At Leverkusen, Boniface had fallen behind Patrik Schick in the attacking order and was made available by then head coach Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag was dismissed early in the season and replaced in September by Kasper Hjulmand, who signed a contract until 2027.

Boniface remains under contract at Leverkusen until 2028, with two years left on his current deal. In a post on X, he described the season as "crazy" and thanked Bremen fans, staff and teammates for their support.
