Werder Bremen’s sporting director, Clemens Fritz, has publicly addressed the club's disappointing results following the acquisition of Nigerian forward Victor Boniface.
Speaking with the German outlet Mopo, Fritz characterized the initial signing as a "smart risk" and a calculated financial move. The club had hoped to capitalize on an emerging opportunity, believing that Boniface's raw talent would flourish within their system while simultaneously supporting the development of fellow player Keke Topp.
During his tenure at the Weser Stadium, Boniface struggled to find his rhythm, contributing only two assists across 11 Bundesliga appearances. This lack of offensive production has led the club's leadership to acknowledge that the strategic vision behind the move failed to materialize as intended.
Reflecting on the situation, Fritz offered a candid assessment of the project's outcome:
"Looking at the current reality, we must be honest enough to admit that the partnership failed to evolve into the successful form we had envisioned," Fritz remarked.
