Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka following the club's promotion to the Premier League.
The Championship side confirmed the move in April after securing a top-flight return under head coach Frank Lampard. Onyeka, 28, spent the second half of the 2026 season on loan at the Coventry Building Society Arena after arriving from Brentford in the January transfer window.
The transfer was built into the initial loan. Brentford announced in January that Onyeka had joined Coventry on loan with an obligation to buy if the club won promotion. That condition was triggered when Coventry clinched a Premier League place last month. The Midlands club will pay a fee reported at around eight million euros, with the player's registration moving on 1 July 2026. Onyeka has agreed a three-year contract, with an option for a further season.
Onyeka made 14 appearances during Coventry's promotion run, scoring once against Derby County and recording one assist. He joined Brentford from Danish club Midtjylland in 2021 and went on to make 87 appearances for the west London side, including 75 in the Premier League.
