Leroy Sane Says Galatasaray Pulled Ahead Through Years of Work

Leroy Sane says Galatasaray's run of titles is the product of long-term planning, not a one-season surge.

The German winger, 29, made the comments in remarks circulated this week after Galatasaray secured another Süper Lig championship.

Sane, who joined the Istanbul club from Bayern Munich on a free transfer on 1 July 2025, said Galatasaray "has done a lot of things right in recent years, not just this season," and that the squad began preparing for the next campaign immediately after winning the title. He described the approach as similar to his former club, calling both teams focused on constantly winning.

Sane said Galatasaray "didn't get here by chance" but through proper work and building on earlier success. He added that the club has moved ahead "in every way mentally, in terms of the squad" and that while historic rival Fenerbahçe can compete, Galatasaray has opened a significant gap. He finished by congratulating players, coaches and staff for carrying the project forward.

Galatasaray announced Sane's arrival last summer on a three-year contract through 2028, with a net salary of €9 million and a €3 million loyalty bonus per season. Bayern confirmed the departure in June 2025 after five seasons in Munich, where Sane made 220 competitive appearances and won four Bundesliga titles.
